Winter Locations To Visit With Your Best Friend

Often when we think about travelling with our four-legged best friends, we may imagine summertime destinations like the ocean, a favorite park, hiking trail or lake. But just because the temperature begins to drop, this doesn’t mean we shouldn’t still enjoy some spectacular adventures with one of our favorite road trip companions - our canines.

No matter how big or small, there’s still plenty of places we can visit that are dog-friendly during these colder months.  Here’s a handful of alternatives to a traditional summer vacation when it comes to frolicing with Fido:

The Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa in Stowe, Vermont

You and your pooch can be pampered inside or enjoy more than 60 acres of trails and other outdoor adventures at this beautiful spa and resort located in upstate Vermont. With the resort’s own mascot, Benny, a friendly snow-covered black labrador mix appearing on their pet-friendly landing page, you know your four-legged friend is welcome here.

The Lake Placid Lodge in the Adirondacks of New York

Since the recent summer Olympics were concluded in Rio, some of us may recall the winter games held in Lake Placid way back in February of 1980. But this lodge located in the Adirondacks of New York will currently offer their guests an unforgettable adventure with their dogs who are welcome in over a dozen of their lakefront cabins. Although your pet must be leashed when outside of these cozy confines and aren’t welcome in the Main Lodge, they’re still available to enjoy this winter retreat with you.

The Westin Monache Resort in Mammoth Lakes, California

This picturesque playground located on the west coast posts a file online that refers to this unique venue as “It’s A  Dog’s Life In Mammoth Lakes.” They list a number of dog-friendly activities and amenities that include a nearby pampered pet spot called Tailwaggers, local restaurants where pets can accompany their humans, a breathtaking ride to the summit aboard their Panoramic Gondola where dogs are welcome on leash and a number of hiking adventures where canines can walk with their masters on a lead.

The Hotel Jerome in Aspen, Colorado

Many different snow-covered locations are well-known in Colorado and Aspen is no exception with a pet-friendly spot where you can stay and play, while our dogs are accommodated at The Hotel Jerome. When you let the staff know in advance that you’ll be bring your canine companion, they’ll welcome them with a special present for your friend, complimentary dog beds and bowls along with room service specifically created for your pet’s unique palate.

The Ritz Carlton in Bachelor Gulch, Colorado

Nothing says glitz like the glamorous chain of Hotel Ritz hotels sprinkled all across the country and around the world. At this lesser-known location in Bachelor Gulch, human and canine guests are often welcomed by another labrador named Minor, although with their namesake mascot, a Saint Bernard known as Bachelor. With these furry friends available on staff, guests will enjoy “Fido Fridays” and Bachelor’s Brunch where masters and their pets can come together to participate in these special times with their animals at this pristine resort.

These locations will often require a small deposit or fee to accommodate our animals, but it’s a small price to pay for their companionship during our excursion. Don’t let the chill of winter stop you from having unforgettable adventures with your four-legged friends.
