Joining forces in the fight to solve the crisis of pet overpopulation, MS SPAN and MARL are committed to preventing the births of puppies and kittens so they won't be tragically destroyed due to a lack of homes in the Jackson metro area. Over 70,000 cats and dogs are euthanized in Mississippi each year. This partnership allows both organizations to more effectively express the plight of homeless, unwanted animals in the state of Mississippi.. The solution is within reach of every pet owner. Simply commit to spay or neuter. Commit to help save lives. MARL and MS SPAN are working together through our spay/neuter programs to end the overpopulation of our dogs and cats.
Mississippi Spay and Neuter’s 7-year-old pet sterilization program at the Big Fix Clinic has successfully altered more than 25,000+ animals since 2008, which proactively helps fight the Jackson Metro Area's dire pet overpopulation problem.
Our Mission… To reduce euthanasia and suffering of homeless animals by providing affordable spay and neuter; by engaging the cooperation of the community and by raising awareness of pet overpopulation.
Currently, MS SPAN provides pet owners living in 42 counties or 82% of Mississippi's residents with access to low-cost spay/neuter services either through their voucher program, high-volume spay/neuter clinic (the Big Fix Clinic), and/or through their referral services to the other 3 high-volume clinics around the state as well as referrals to other animal welfare groups with "Animal Care" funding. MS SPAN also offers free transport services from 3 locations in a 90-mile radius to the Big Fix Clinic.

The Mississippi Animal Rescue League (MARL) is the largest full service animal welfare agency in Central Mississippi. MARL is the only “open admission” shelter in the area, which means they accept every animal brought to the shelter, and no animal is ever turned away. As a result, they receive and care for over 12,000 animals each year.
MARL works very hard to provide loving and humane care and good homes for all animals in their care, but sadly they receive more animals than there are homes available. Being an “open admission” shelter, they face the harsh reality of pet overpopulation each day.
All animals adopted from MARL are spayed or neutered on-site at the shelter hospital, and coordinates a low-cost spay/neuter program in cooperation with participating area veterinarians for people on fixed incomes or receiving government assistance.
