Q: What do you wish that other people knew about us? A: Not only is there an inviting and warm welcome here by the staff, they truly care about your pet. My baby had a little reaction to the suture and they were and still are with me with my concerns every step of the way. This clinic is amazing.

Q: How did you learn about spay and neuter and its importance? Was there a life event that changed your views? A: Growing up we always had our pets “fixed”. Plus Bob Barker on The Price is Right always said that you should help control the pet population by having your pet spayed or neutered.

Q: With so many great organizations to support, why should others support Mississippi Spay and Neuter? A: So many dogs and cats become unaltered strays and exponentially increase their numbers. Large portions of these strays get hit by cars, starve, become diseased, become a nuisance, or end up in shelters where they are terminated if not adopted by a certain point. Pets that are spayed or neutered help control the pet population. I’ve also heard that they are healthier, happier, and live longer. Having an organization that offers affordable spay/neuter is quite beneficial to pretty much everyone. It makes the service accessible to those who normally would not have their pets spayed/neutered due to lack of funds.

Q: Without access to affordable spay/neuter, what would you have done? Who/what would have suffered? A: I would have had to get it done at the vet’s office for probably around triple the price. I would have had to save up for a while to get it done and most likely deal with the girls going into heat as well as the possibility of pregnancy. Rusty might have gotten some of the strays around the neighborhood pregnant and increased the stray cat population while I saved money to get him neutered.

Q: Do you remember the first time you saw the animal? What was their physical and emotional state like? A: We adopted Fiona, a border collie mix, from MARL. She was barely old enough to be adopted and the end of her tail was bald from her trying to nurse on it.
Rusty was born in my garage with 2 brothers and 1 sister to a stray mama who would leave the kittens alone for hours at a time. He was the runt of the litter and his eyes kept being goopy and crusted shut. I cleaned his eyes with a warm wet washcloth often. We found homes for his brothers and sister but not him, I was too attached by then anyways.
We took in Luna when she was only 2 weeks old, her mama had mastitis and wouldn’t let any of her 8 pups nurse. Her daddy is a cane corso and mama is a lab mix. We had to feed her puppy milk replacer constantly at first. Luckily she can eat kibbles now.
