Q: With so many great organizations to support, why should others support Mississippi Spay and Neuter? A: MS Spay and Neuter is an awesome organization and I’m glad that people in our area have access to their services! So many animals suffer from over breeding, neglect, and homelessness; this is an affordable way to prevent animals from suffering and to reduce the feral/homeless animal population.
Q: Without access to affordable spay/neuter, what would you have done? Who/what would have suffered? A: I would have paid to have them fixed at a vet’s office, but it would have been difficult to afford. I would have had to save for a little bit to get the money up. Thank you, Big Fix!
Q: Do you remember the first time you saw the animal? What was their physical and emotional state like? A: Kiki was malnourished and pregnant. She was frightened and it took her a while to get used to me. After getting adjusted and getting spayed, she calmed down a lot!
Q: Tell us about a specific animal or animals who used our services. A: I rescued a stray, female cat who was malnourished. My vet suggested that I wait a few weeks before getting her fixed (as she would be staying indoors) so the risk of complications during surgery would diminish after she got some weight on her. After a few weeks, her belly began to grow and it turned out that she was pregnant! After the kittens were weaned and found loving homes, we took Kiki in to the Big Fix. She was well taken care of and will never suffer from kitten season in the springtime again! One of her kittens, whom we kept, was also taken to the Big Fix after she was old enough. Both are happy, healthy kitties!
Q: How did you learn about spay and neuter and its importance? Was there a life event that changed your views? A: I’ve always felt spaying & neutering is important. Animals can reproduce at alarming rates.
Q: With so many great organizations to support, why should others support Mississippi Spay and Neuter? A: To keep such a fantastic service available to benefit pet-owners and our communities.
Q: Without access to affordable spay/neuter, what would you have done? Who/what would have suffered? A: My wallet would’ve suffered. My animals would still have been fixed, but at a much higher cost at the vet.
Q: What is the animal's life like now? A: We’re just one big human/dog/kitty family… without the inconvenience of female kitties going into heat and trying to bolt out of the house.
Q: Do you remember the first time you saw the animal? What was their physical and emotional state like? A: At pick-up, the kittens (both female) were calm and quiet if I recall. They remained “out of it for” several hours; even took to hissing at each other. (In their state, they smelled the unfamiliar scent of the hospital and those who handled them.) Within several hours, their personalities were mostly back to normal. For our dog, a boy, he seemed at pick-up as though nothing whatsoever had transpired that day. He simply thought he made new friends.
Q: What do you wish that other people knew about us? A: That you exist to serve the community in helping to affordably control the animal population in our communities. Also that one’s local vet may provide a voucher to The Big Fix – or is it the other way around? I remember there is some cost-friendly, helpful option between the two…
