Q: With so many great organizations to support, why should others support Mississippi Spay and Neuter?
A: Because it is the responsible and right thing to do….period.

Q: What do you wish that other people knew about us?
A: The facility is so clean and the staff is so professional. I have all my animals spayed/neutered at The Big Fix Clinic. You can’t beat the price and it’s done with great care. Great prices on optional vaccines as well!

Q: How did you learn about spay and neuter and its importance? Was there a life event that changed your views?
A: Of course to many it might go back to Bob Barker on the Price is Right – and with all the feral and unwanted animals filling up the shelters and the streets it is imperative to control the pet population. I don’t believe in altering nature but when we as a society can’t or won’t help it when it needs it then we are to blame.

Q: When did you first hear about MS SPAN and/or the Big Fix Clinic?
A: I heard about Big Fix Clinic about 4 years ago.
  • Becki Stringer
Q: Without access to affordable spay/neuter, what would you have done? Who/what would have suffered?
A: We would have probably had a couple of more litters because separating male and female when the female is in heat is almost impossible.

  • Becki Stringer
Q: What is the animal's life like now?
A: After a couple of days of laying around and not jumping as much as usual, they were right back to normal, absolutely no problems.
  • Becki Stringer
Q: Do you remember the first time you saw the animal? What was their physical and emotional state like?
A: The first time I saw them after their surgery they looked a little glassy-eyed and sleepy. I just held them most of the rest of the day.

Q: With so many great organizations to support, why should others support Mississippi Spay and Neuter?
A: Once again, amongst other great organizations it’s always great to support one’s own state/local organizations. We get back what we give.

Q: Tell us about a specific animal or animals who used our services.
A: My furbabies are all under 5lbs. and they have all been fixed at your clinic. They all recovered so quickly afterward. I will always use your clinic.

Q: Without access to affordable spay/neuter, what would you have done? Who/what would have suffered?
A: I wouldn’t have been able to do anything. I’m on disability and barely get by. The animals suffer dearly being thrown out into the streets unwanted and producing more unwanted animals.
  • Becki Stringer

A: You guys have the drop-off and pick up down to a fine art, it is very organized.

  • Kathleen Hoffland
Q: Do you remember the first time you saw the animal? What was their physical and emotional state like?
A: Extremely sad. Full of fleas, dehydrated, dirty and hungry. Most certainly frightened.

Q: Tell us about a specific animal or animals who used our services.
A: Most of my animals are found feral and I try my best to take care of them and re-home if I can (not always the case) My oldest cat lived to be 15 and my youngest cat at this time almost 2.

Q: Without access to affordable spay/neuter, what would you have done? Who/what would have suffered?
A: Without BigFix, there is no way we could have afforded to take in Allie Mae or Trouble. Moreover, I could not have cared for two Chihuahuas inside coming into heat, so Honey Bun may have never been a part of this family either! I was already struggling trying to see after Baby Girl and run back and forth out of town to help care for my elderly parents. It is hard taking a dog in heat on the road. Now, both Honey Bun and Baby Girl go with me and play with Mom’s Yorkie, her Datsun, and her red-nosed Pit! They love to see us coming and go wild with new playmates for a few days! Formerly, when Baby Girl was in heat, she had to stay shut up so much and could not even sleep with me…I could not have dealt with that with two female Chihuahuas.

Q: What is the animal's life like now?
A: I have a large breed patio doggie door that allows Honey Bun and Baby Girl to come and go as they please. They can go outside and play in their large, fenced-in back yard and sun and play in the dirt. They also have a large, covered back porch to play on or just lay on. Pine trees shelter half of it as well. Mostly, they stay with me inside keeping up with my every move. However, Baby Girl particularly likes go out into the sun and lay flat of her back in the sunshine! She is so cute! Honey bun digs in the grass and chases bugs. They have lots of toys and love to play fetch or tug of war! Alley Mae, Trouble, and Button (our veteran) run the hill outside. They are nosy neighbors and alert me to all traffic, LOL. They run and tussle and play all day. Our neighbor calls the hill in between us “play hill” where our dogs meet up and play and then rest under the pines. Alley Mae and Trouble have their big bed inside where they spend their nights guarding the foot of our bed and then take to the yard again come morning. Button comes inside and sleeps in the utility room when it is rainy or even cloudy. She is petrified of even a cloud in the sky. Otherwise, she prefers being outside or under the porch. However, she has learned to open the screen door to the front porch and stays there too. Yes, they are all rotten and we do not have to worry about protecting them from unwanted litters of puppies either thanks to BigFix!

Q: Do you remember the first time you saw the animal? What was their physical and emotional state like?
A: My Pit mix, Allie Mae, was about 6 months old, full of parasites, extremely thin, and had been in a small cage so long that the combination had caused her hair to begin falling out. She was very weak and scared of everyone, especially men. Less than a year later, she is now about 60 pounds and runs and plays constantly with my Pit, Trouble, our latest addition. Trouble is less than a year old and already has had a litter of puppies. She was about to come in heat again when her owners decided to get rid of her. They gave the excuse that she had torn up their sofa while they were at work stating that he “gave her areal good whoopin’ with a belt, too.” She was very timid and clung to me constantly. She came in heat before I could get her to BigFix, but they got her in just as she was going out of heat! Now, both of these healthy and happy babies play with my veteran Lab/Pit mix female rescue on our 20 acres of pine. My Chihuahua, Honey Bun, was about 9 months old when I got her about 6 months ago. I am her third owner. The first old man that had her tied her out in the elements to the tongue of his trailer all day while he was at work, and then many nights she spent there as well with only the trailer to shelter her. She had somehow survived a winter at her tiny, frail age when a second man took her in. He is very sickly and dearly loved her, but has to keep going in and out of the hospital and has no family to care for her. He would leave food and water and shut her in his camper where they lived for a week at a time. My sister told me about her and I took her in. Sadly, this dear man is 100 miles away and cannot see her regularly. Honey Bun is a loving and very active “wild thang” full of energy and so loving, but I could not have gotten her if it were not for the services of BigFix. She spends her day playing and tussling with my other Chihuahua, Baby Girl that I got about two years ago. She is a true baby too! About 18 months after my 19-year-old Chihuahua died and on the heels of losing my Great Dane, Lacey, to a horrible cancer, I saw an ad on public forum selling her. I do not usually pay for animals, but something about her pic made me call and enquire about her. I was so appalled by what I heard that I had to go get her right away! The lady told me that her mom likes to get puppies and raise them up, but then does not want to keep them,. So, she took this one in. (She has her daughter, granddaughter (5), and grandson (8) living with her). She said that her granddaughter had already broken a Yorkie’s neck that they had taken in from her mom, and she was afraid that she would “pull this one’s leg off!” (Obviously, there was no adult in this household!) I rushed to get her! They literally had to hunt this precious 9-month-old pup. She was out hiding in the woods! They said she was bad to hide under the couch and not come out. (Well, imagine that!) When I got her, she was so frightened and just clung to me as if I was her only hope in life. She is still clinging to me and rules the roost around here! Thank you, BigFix, for helping to make our big, rotten, happy family possible!

Q: With so many great organizations to support, why should others support Mississippi Spay and Neuter?
A: You guys are at the forefront of helping animals and anyone would be crazy not to support this company.

Q: How did you learn about spay and neuter and its importance? Was there a life event that changed your views?
A: I read it in a newspaper. And my daughter at the time was 15 yrs old and would not take “no” for an answer. She found 3 kittens (Khyia, Dagues, and Karina) under the back of our trailer. I wasn’t going to keep them but we did anyway.
