Q: Tell us about a specific animal or animals who used our services. A: I brought several feral cats from an elderly friend’s property and The Big Fix took fantastic care of them by fixing them and giving them rabies shots and tipping their ears. This enabled her to have a stable, healthy, managed feral cat population on her property to take care of rodents, keep other feral cats away (since feral cats are territorial) and yet not overwhelm her with too many cats and kittens. She greatly appreciated this as the cats would have continued to breed as she could not afford much to fix them.

Q: With so many great organizations to support, why should others support Mississippi Spay and Neuter? A: This is the only place in our area that offers low cost spay/neuter. Also the only place to offer low cost microchips all the time that I know of. I had to wait for microchip clinics put on by rescues to have my animals done. The added peace of mind provided by chips is awesome, but vet clinics charge outrageous prices to keep up the info.

Q: Without access to affordable spay/neuter, what would you have done? Who/what would have suffered? A: There’s no way I could afford to fix all the strays and ferals that find me. I probably could have found homes for the kittens that were tame. The majority may not have ever been fixed and multiplied unchecked, leaving people like me to find homes for more unwanted, neglected animals with no change in population numbers. Ferals would more than likely be killed.

Q: What do you wish that other people knew about us? A: What a great job you do! How friendly and professional everyone on staff is and that the animals receive the highest level of care. Also, that you are willing and able to work with people to help them fix their animals regardless of their budget-in other words…lack of money does NOT mean you can’t get your pet spayed or neutered.

Q: What is the animal's life like now? A: I keep in contact with several of our ex-fosters. They are in wonderful homes with great families. One has a big sister that he adores. It was love at first sight between those two. They were so gentle with each other, even though he was 4 months old and she was about 3 years old at the time. He even rides around in the stroller with her. Spoiled rotten is an understatement.
