New Building Updates- May 2019

Our organization has fixed more than 80,000 dogs and cats to date--50,000 of those surgeries have been completed at our Big Fix Clinic.

We are proud to share that our clinic has helped the Mississippi Animal Rescue League (MARL) achieve a 40% reduction in the number of animals that enter their shelter every year! As the largest shelter in the state, that is a huge advance in our mission to reduce the number of unwanted pets and euthanasia in our Mississippi.

Although our current facility has served us well up to this point, the consistent demand placed upon us by the community is well beyond our physical capacity. We maintain a one-month surgery wait list that continues to grow every day. Unfortunately, that means that many of the animals have already had puppies and kittens by the time we are able to sterilize them. We must increase our surgical capacity if we truly want to end the overpopulation crisis in our area.

In December, we purchased an existing 10,000 square foot building in Richland and began working on it almost immediately with guidance from the City Building Department. We also began working with a talented architect who is currently completing the plans for our facility. We are so thankful to share that a generous local donor has offered to cover the cost of his fees. We've assembled a strong team of dedicated staff and volunteers (with a special shout-out to our demo man, Harvey Washington), an architect and general contractor to lead these efforts.

Our drawings are now complete and we have started renovations. Our goal is to open the Big Fix Clinic in September and the Big Thrift store by early next year. Our new facility will allow us to fix more than 10,000 animals annually- doubling our current capacity. As a small nonprofit, we could not have moved this quickly without such generous support!

Last October, we began fundraising to purchase and renovate the new facility. To date, we have raised nearly $170,000.  We have an overall New Building Initiative Fundraising Plan in place, with an immediate goal of $100,000 needed to open the new clinic. The Petco Foundation will match up to $17,500 in donations in support of our campaign to build a new Big Fix Clinic.
